Rollers/Sparkers at Dublin Electronic Arts Festival & News "Digest" from 2006
Consider this haiku:
Rollers/Sparkers live at DEAF.
You say you'll go,
But I betcha you won't.
It's true: even though Rollers/Sparkers are playing live this Saturday for the first time in Ireland since January, you remain as unmoved as the maple when confronted by the tree frog. But it's something you should care about and here's why: the show is taking place downstairs in the fantastic Ukiyo karaoke bar on Exchequer Street, thanks to the Dublin Electronic Arts Festival (DEAF).
Potential audients should bear in mind that the room we're playing in is barely bigger than a plum stone, so the best approach may be to simply stick your head in for a look once in a while, rather than attempting to catch the whole thing. We do intend to make our sounds last for a patience-testing three hours anyway (from 4pm until 7pm), so there'll be slivers of sound for everyone.
NEWS FROM 2006
If anyone is wondering what else we've been up to lately, here's a quadripartite answer, finishing with a quote from Sun Tzu's "The Art of War":
(i) In late January we played as part of the Vibrations night in The Globe, Dublin. If you'd gone along – and we know you didn't – you'd probably own a copy of a limited edition CD containing a new R/S track entitled "Gethsemane". For not owning that CD, you mainly have yourself to blame, but if you contact the promoter, Dan Watson, he might oblige you with a copy (though we're encouraging him not to).
(ii) In April, we played a couple of shows in Oslo with the help of our friend and impressario, Blackrock's Barry Kavanagh. For anyone planning a trip there, or in a position to offer us sponsorship, Rollers/Sparkers heartily endorses the city and the people of Oslo.
(iii) In June we rented a house near Lough Derg in Galway and, with the help of engineer Jimmy Eadie, recorded material for our next album. As the arrow-punctured vein may hiss to the hastily assembling platelets "Who know when the damn thing will come out?" Not too far into 2007, we hope, but there is still much to be done. We'll keep you up to date, despite your protestations.
(iv) Even though you are competent, appear to be incompetent.
